ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE ISSUES (ESG) AS AN IMPERATIVE FOR BUSINESS IN A PANDEMIC

Summary

The article presents the essence of corporate social responsibility and its components.
A study of the management process under the influence of COVID-19 and the prospects for the development of enterprises after the pandemic. The following components are considered: preparation for the consequences of climate change; meeting consumer demand in order to show business responsibility; identifying ways to attract and retain professionals, demonstrating going beyond traditional financial criteria; meeting the growing demand for compliance with ESG (environment, social and governance) requirements in tenders and meeting enhanced government control, such as transparency and governance reporting requirements; problems through which managers review supply chains. The possible impact of Covid-19 on the environment, social sphere and management during the pandemic is predicted in 3—6 months, in 12 months and more, as the pandemic has become a serious crisis with huge humanitarian consequences, but it is also a time when sustainable and socially responsible companies thought about their purpose.
It has been proven that in the extremely difficult conditions of the global crisis, the requirements for business have never been so high, and expectations continue to grow. Managers have to do everything possible to protect their employees, and at the same time face serious economic pressures that could potentially threaten the future of their business. However, some companies continue to create lasting value for their stakeholders by linking ESG's material issues to customer experience, business processes, strategy, communication and culture. Their vision and commitment to a sustainable organizational framework based on financial management and ESG provides an additional level of risk protection, while enhancing opportunities for innovation and added value for stakeholders, as careful study of stakeholders' views and encouragement of dialogue will be an important element in making adjustments and reaching compromises, which is a necessary condition for meeting the needs of all stakeholders.

Keywords: environment; social sphere; management; stakeholders; corporate social responsibility; social audit; manager.
